Hope everyone of you has had a great holiday and has been blessed abundantly this festive season. Personally, I've been STUFFED with poultry of every breed and other stuff like ham and beef as well. Starting to crave for fish. Haha. But nothing can go in as of now..... Did I mention I've had loads of deserts as well? Western deserts, not counting the green bean soup my grandma made on the 25th.
Ok, story time! Heard this at mass from the homily. It seems that the pagans commemorated the celebration of the triumph of light over darkness on the 21st of december every year. The sun had disappeared and did not shine upon the face of the earth for a long time (unspecified but yeah) and the beast had pinned the hero down in an epic battle that lasted for that whole period. Don't ask me how they survived without food and water for so long. Then on the 21st of december that year, the sun's rays finally began to light up the cold barren ground which was once full of life. This sign gave commoners hope, and the hero gained a burst of strength to overturn the beast, pinning it to the ground in turn. The beast as eventually slain, and the pagans celebrated that day as the day which light triumphed over the dark abyss of evil.
Here is where christians wanted to do: they needed to find a festive occassion and period to celebrate the birth of christ since the exact date is not known to us homo sapiens. Upon learning of this festival the pagans commemorated each year, the christians believed that this was the perfect time to celebrate christ's entry into the world. It was decided that it should be on a date after the 21st, and 25th became the chosen date as we know it today. Hence 25th of december is the day we celebrate christmas.
Ok, enough talking from me. All the best for the new year and may music flow from our hearts into the world!
